Do I need a visa for India?

Yes.  It is necessary to organise an Indian Visa PRIOR to arriving in India.  Find the Indian Consulate... in your area.

What facilities are provided at the Annex Hotel and Himalaya House?

  • Fully furnished clean rooms.  All rooms include custom made beds and mattresses with duvet and include their own bathroom with both hot and cold water.
  • Hot water bottles and gas heaters are available to use in the rooms in the cooler months.
  • Our local laundry can have your clothes cleaned and ironed in 24 hours.
  • A common lounge room for guests to relax in with satellite TV, and a library filled with books, travel magazines, and trekking maps for you to read during your stay.
  • Delicious food, cooked onsite and can be eaten on the rooftop restaurant at the Annex Hotel or in the dining room overlooking the river and mountains at Himalaya House.
  • Secure luggage storage available for when you head off on your treks in the local area.
  • Trekking, camping and jeep safaris with our personal guides can be booked and arranged through us.

Mcleod Ganj and Dharamshala are they the same place?

Dharamshala is the main town and Mcleod Ganj is like a suburb of Dharamshala and is located 15 minutes up the hill above the centre of Dharamshala.  Mcleod Ganj is where the Dalai Lama lives and where everything happens.  There are 2 bus stands one down the hill in Dharamshala and one at the top of the hill in Mcleod Ganj.  So if you are coming in by bus just make sure you are clear which one you are coming into.

Where can I go white water rafting?

White water rafting is avaliable from May to August in Pahalgam, Kashmir.  The 30 minute, 3 km trip winds down the rapids of the Lidder River through the natural forests in this Himalayan region.  Available for anyone over 12 years old.
